Describe your teaching and tutoring experience?

I taught ESL online and in the classroom for 5 years. Online I taught both group classes and private one-on-one classes. The group classes held 10-12 students and followed a school-provided curriculum. The private lessons were a great deal more flexible and we did things such as focusing on specific grammar and language-related topics, studied for standardized exams (GRE, etc), and practiced conversations.

In the classroom I had 10-25 students and we followed a school-provided curriculum. These classes allowed for a great deal  more flexibility with regards to projects and assignments. Also, the instructors were encouraged to take students on subject-related field trips. I took several classes out to famous museums in Boston and one class to an open-mic short story reading, where one of my students won a cash prize for her story.

Tell us about yourself. What are your interests outside of school? What else would students enjoy knowing about you?

I love reading and writing. When I lived abroad, I joined a book club that held monthly events (including a blind book-swap) and I helped to create and edit an online and printed literary journal.

What makes you an awesome Tutor? Describe any experience, qualifications or strategies here?

I have a great passion for learning and for sharing knowledge. One of my main strategies with helping students is to find a topic that is relevant to them and connect it to the subject matter so that it can become more accessible to them.
