About me

Good day, learners:

My name is Jackson. I am glad to serve you as your new ENL (English as a New Language) teacher! I am certified in TESOL (Teaching English to Students of Other Languages), recognized by New York State, with my education endorsed by the University of Rochester (B.A., English Literature & M.S. Teaching and Curriculum, TESOL). My passion for teaching stems from my interests in linguistics and the cultural implications of language. I am a native English speaker as well as conversationally fluent in Italian. I currently work as a K-12 teacher in Western New York, teaching students from countries such as Yemen, Nepal, Somalia, Afghanistan, Myanmar, and many others. I am well versed in effective second language acquisition pedagogies, culturally responsive lessons, and teaching language through meaningful content. I come with 6 years of teaching experience and a background in creative writing. My teaching philosophy is born form the credence of "imagined communities" -- a concept introduced by language acquisition scholar, Bonny Norton (2010). With respect to this concept, my goal is for my learners to feel comfortable and valued in their new language community.  Thus, I welcome you to learn with me!
