About Me

I have a degree in English language and literature as well as a certificate in teaching English as a second language. With my experience, I'm able to work with both young learners and adult learners. I've worked with Chinese students, Japanese students, and even a Nepali student--all with varying levels of English skill. Further, as I worked with all these students online, I'm familiar and comfortable working in an environment that's strictly online.

Describe your teaching and tutoring experience?

I tutored two young Chinese students onlive via Zoom. During this experience, I created the lessons, lesson plans, and wrote weekly briefs and biweekly reflections to analyze the students' progress. Once a week, I met with the students for 40 minutes to hold our tutoring sessions.
I also attended two English learning classes, where the students were primarily adult Japanese students. In these classes, I served as a discussion leader and conversation partner for the participants, helping the students practice using English. Even now, despite how these classes have ended, I continue to serve as a conversation partner to some of the classses' participants.
Unofficially, I help English learners practice English through various language exchange apps. While we (my conversation partners and I) hold casual conversations, I correct their English and answer any questions they have about English.

Tell us about yourself. What are your interests outside of school? What else would students enjoy knowing about you?

I'm the type of person who likes to try new things, which means I have several hobbies. My main hobbies include reading (both literature and manga), watching TV and movie series (as well as anime), practicing Japanese, and listening to music. Hobbies I've tried and enjoyed in the past include drawing, photography, playing musical instruments, tarot, palmistry, creative writing, video games, botany, yoga, hiking, and starting various collections.
My favorite hobbies, and a couple of my favorite subjects to discuss, are reading and watching movies/TV. There are so many stories to watch and read, and I love talking about them!

What makes you an awesome Tutor? Describe any experience, qualifications or strategies here?

Since I've tutored both young and adult learners, I'm flexible when it comes to the age of my students. I have no peference! I'm extremely interested in traveling abroad, so I'm open to a variety of backgrounds and cultures. I love learning about Japan and Japanese culture, especially, since I plan to tutor in Japan someday. Since my schooling has focused on English and how to teach it, I'm qualified to tutor both native speakers and non-native speakers.
