About me

I have a variety of experience working with adults in the ESL and EFL classroom, in-person and online, and also overseas. In 2008, I volunteered with Detroit Adult Dominican Literacy Program, tutoring adult immigrants seeking citizenship and employment in the U.S. In 2010, I worked in South Korea for a year teaching English to elementary school students.

While working on my TEFL certificate in 2014, I conducted a practicum that involved TOEFL private tutoring and guest volunteer teaching at the International Institute of Metro Detroit (IIMD), working with adults from various countries. As of 2015, I have been teaching Business English to adults online at YBM, providing student-centered classes that allow the students to build listening and speaking skills.

During my graduate tenure at Hamline University, I have completed various graduate coursework on lesson planning, curriculum, and syllabus design, and sociolinguistics that equipped me with knowledge of current ESL pedagogy. In addition, for my graduate thesis, I conducted a research study on Black teachers and their experiences with anti-Black sentiment while teaching abroad in South Korea. I was honored to have my primary advisor select my research framework as a sample for his Capstone Thesis course.

In my free time, I love illustration design and writing. I just published a novel this year, which will be relaunched in 2022. I also have an art business on the side where I sell prints and apparel of my artwork.
